A psychiatric evaluation is conducted by a psychiatrist or psychiatric APRN and generally includes the following components: 

•  patient interview

•  medical record review

•  diagnostic tests

•  collecting history from collateral sources

 

Medication management is a treatment service rendered by a psychiatrist or a psychiatric APRN. This service occurs after the patient has participated in a psychiatric evaluation and typically includes: 

•  prescribing medication when clinically indicated,

•  providing the prescription, and

•  ongoing medical monitoring and evaluation related to the patient's use of psychotropic medication.
